Move … Keep Walking

Ok, so I am having one of those weeks. You know one of those when your trials come to a head, and you just cannot keep it together anymore. Yesterday, I cried a lot, like all day. I have been praying about something, literally for years, and I am realizing now that, unless something drastically changes, that my prayers will not be answered they way I had hoped. I don’t mean to sound mysterious, but it is just something I cannot talk about right now. Please pray for me and for my family. We really need it.

Recently an encouraging note that one of my dear friends, Josie, sent me a few years ago popped up on Facebook. I was going through my breast cancer struggles. It spoke to my heart then, and it speaks to my heart now. Sometimes I don’t like those reminders on Facebook, because they can be painful. Not this message, it popped up right at the right time. Then, and now.

Where would we be without our friends? Friends are one of the ways that God takes care of us.

Her note said, “Hang in there! God is good and He will be with you through all of this. Read Acts 14:19-20 I found myself discouraged last week and the next morning God sent me this scripture. Paul was stoned and left for dead, yet he got up and kept witnessing. Keep moving … girlfriend … Keep moving!!”

Here is what Acts 14:19-20 says, “Then some Jews came from Antioch and Iconium and won the crowd over. They stoned Paul and dragged him outside the city, thinking he was dead. 20 But after the disciples had gathered around him, he got up and went back into the city. The next day he and Barnabas left for Derbe.“

If you’re like me, you’ve had episodes when life has beaten you down. Maybe you are there right now. The devil wants us to stay down. He wants us to give up. God has something better. He is faithful. And when we are faithful back to Him, great things happen. Sometimes we cannot keep moving in our strength. But we can do all things in His strength. Philippians 4:13

He has work for us to do. More people to love, to serve and to comfort with the comfort that He has given us. Nothing helps me more when I am down, than to help someone else. I know where my help comes from, and I know that it is not over yet. He has a plan, and I have to keep trusting Him. He has it no matter what.

I have been listening to a Toby Mac song that I love called, “Move, keep walking.” Check it out. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MX1G71WK-FA

So … I am dusting myself off. I am getting up. Time to keep walking. Will you?

Dear Lord:  I know you understand the struggles we experience, and you know each of our hearts. Please give us comfort in our trials, courage to trust You, and strength to keep walking when we want to give up. You are faithful no matter what. Please help us in our hour of need. Amen

Stand firm and you will win life. Luke 21:19

If you need prayer for a trial, please share with us, and we will pray. Also, please share any experiences, thoughts or comments.

Thank you for reading and sharing my blogpost today. God is faithful. May you be encouraged today no matter what you are going through. It is not over yet.

About Sharon Hawkins

Sharon Hawkins wants others to know that she is totally in love with Jesus. Through hardships, trials and blessings, she has learned that there is no end to His mercy, His grace and His faithfulness. There’s simply no better friend than Jesus. In 2008, she answered God’s calling to begin a Ministry called Grace in The Wilderness. She loves to encourage other people, and, through the Ministry’s Newsletters and Conferences, she and others are challenging women and teens to discover Christ in a new and deeper way, who they are in Him and His plan for their lives. She has been a business owner for the last twenty years. Five years ago, she learned about forgiveness at a new level with the betrayal of a close friend who embezzled from her business and was sent to prison. Sharon has experienced God’s incredible grace through adversity during breast cancer and melanoma diagnoses and multiple surgeries that have perpetuated a continuing painful nerve illness. Both cancers were stage 1 and she has now been cancer free for four years. Her cancer journey is chronicled at www.caringbridge.org/visit/sharonhawkins. Recently, she sold a large part of her business as God has prepared her to turn a page in her life and focus more on ministry. With God’s amazing provision and the support of her wonderful friends and family—husband, Scott, and sons, Taylor and Bradley, Sharon is, not only surviving her wilderness one day at a time, but finding that His grace is more than sufficient no matter what.

  1. Thanks Sharon!! I feel like this one was just for ME! I especially enjoyed the TobyMac song. I’m going to see if Cornerstone can get me a copy. This has been a tough week for me also and the verses were what I needed to hear. Thank you for your dedication and encouragement!!

  2. Sharon, I’m not sure you remember me but I live in Mt Pleasant and we met a few years ago. I now have been diagnosed with the ugly C. Your comment about not being left for dead is such an inspiration. I’ll definitely keep walking both spiritually and physically. Prayers for you and your family. Praises to the one who can do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine.

    • Oh, Grace, I am so sorry to hear about your cancer. You are so right! God is able and He is holding you safely in the palm of His hand. Remember cancer starts with little c. Christ starts with Big C! I will be praying for you!
