When the Mist of Morning Rises on November 9

when-the-mist-of-morning-risesOnce again we stand at a crossroads in our nation.

As if there were not enough polls already right now, recently, the media asked people of all ages and of all political parties across America, “What is one word you would use to describe the 2016 election?”

The answers varied. Disappointing. Bad. Chaos. Crazy. Uncertain. Weird. Embarrassing. Worrying. Turmoil. Bogus. Confusing. Worse. Dividing. Challenging. Backbiting. Negative. Scary. Awful. Disastrous. Insane. Unusual. Disgusting.

One answer that kept coming up in the poll was “Long”. I think that is one description we can all agree on. We are ready for this election to be over.

Today it most likely will be over. Millions of Americans will go to the polls to speak their minds, vote their convictions, and render their verdict. It is Tuesday—a brand new day that God has given us. It is election day in America. A day frought with uncertainty EXCEPT for ONE thing. GOD. Our GOD is in control. Our GOD is bigger than governments or political parties. OUR GOD is leading HIS PEOPLE to stand, speak, share and chase away the darkness.

I will be there standing in line to vote alongside those who feel the deep convictions with me for babies and marriage and guns and the right to keep our religious freedom. I will be there in line with those who believe a continuation of the past eight years is a good thing. I will be there in line with those who won’t know who to vote for until they get to the panel. Voting is our right, our responsibility as citizens of the USA. God will be loving every one of us standing in that line, and peering over our shoulder to see what we do alone picking our candidates. He has a plan for each one of us. No matter our choices, He will continue to work us toward those plans for our lives and for our nation.

Whatever happens with the election and the next 4 years will not be a surprise to God. Whether it becomes harder after this to share our faith, or not. Whether new supreme court justices will be placed who will whittle away at abortion laws, or not. Whether same-sex marriage will become legal in all 50 states, or not. Whether we are entering a time of financial prosperity or even heading toward the path of a third-world country. Whether gun control will come, or not. Whether borders will be closed or expanded. God knows. And He is in charge. He establishes rulers. Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. (Romans 13:1)

The Lord is not limited by laws or leaders in carrying out His will. Sometimes it is His plan to show us mercy and give us an easier way. Sometimes His greatest mercies come to us by allowing harder times in which we will see more clearly our need for Him. Through both, He gives His children opportunities to witness to others of His grace and glory and show compassion to a dying world, to be a light on a hill. Through both, He will hold us and help us and love us.

He knows what is best.

when-the-mist-of-morning-rises-3And on November 9 when the mist of the morning rises, we will have a new President Elect and a new path before us. But Jesus will still be King of Kings and Lord of Lords. And because of that, whatever happens, it is all good.

Dear Lord: We are so far from where we were when our founding fathers first formed this nation seeking religious freedom. These are scary times. Our country needs You.  We need You. Rather than worry about the state of our nation, please help us to put our whole
trust in You. Bring revival to Your people, and heal our land. Please send us a harvest time in America where many would come to You. Only in You can we find a blessed hope for the future of America and generations to come. Please give us Your direction and bring us back to You. No matter what happens, we are thankful that we are held fast and safe in Your arms. Amen

Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. Proverbs 3:5

If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14

About Sharon Hawkins

Sharon Hawkins wants others to know that she is totally in love with Jesus. Through hardships, trials and blessings, she has learned that there is no end to His mercy, His grace and His faithfulness. There’s simply no better friend than Jesus. In 2008, she answered God’s calling to begin a Ministry called Grace in The Wilderness. She loves to encourage other people, and, through the Ministry’s Newsletters and Conferences, she and others are challenging women and teens to discover Christ in a new and deeper way, who they are in Him and His plan for their lives. She has been a business owner for the last twenty years. Five years ago, she learned about forgiveness at a new level with the betrayal of a close friend who embezzled from her business and was sent to prison. Sharon has experienced God’s incredible grace through adversity during breast cancer and melanoma diagnoses and multiple surgeries that have perpetuated a continuing painful nerve illness. Both cancers were stage 1 and she has now been cancer free for four years. Her cancer journey is chronicled at www.caringbridge.org/visit/sharonhawkins. Recently, she sold a large part of her business as God has prepared her to turn a page in her life and focus more on ministry. With God’s amazing provision and the support of her wonderful friends and family—husband, Scott, and sons, Taylor and Bradley, Sharon is, not only surviving her wilderness one day at a time, but finding that His grace is more than sufficient no matter what.
