The Wait

Wouldn’t it be nice if God would let us in on the future?

I know all of us have burning questions all the time. The hardest part can be the wait.

How will my husband’s medical test turn out?

Will I lose my job? Should I look for another job now?

Will my child succeed with his future? Will he make mistakes that cost him dearly?  How can we reach him? How should we guide him?

Will God ever heal my pain?

Will I end up alone?

Maybe it is best that we not know what is ahead because it might just scare us to death. Would it interfere with God’s growing our faith if we learned ahead of time that everything was going to turn out all right? Would we shut down if we knew that tragedy was coming? I know that God has grown my faith the most in the storms of my life, and, at times, especially during the wait.

At the risk of questioning God, don’t we really want to know … ?

What … is this all about?

When … will you answer me?

Where … are you, Lord?

Why … are you making me wait so long to learn Your answers?

Then we get to the “Who” and if we can answer that question ourselves, we can feel peace about all of our other questions. The “Who” is God.

HE IS GOD. AND WE ARE NOT.

This is where the truth dawns on us. “Be still, and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10

This one simple verse holds the answer to so many of life’s questions, our questions.

For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways. Isaiah 55:8-9

His ways are often beyond our understanding. God is in control. Yesterday. Today. Tomorrow. And Forever.

Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:2

Jesus loves us more than we can ever comprehend, so much so that He gave His life so that we may have eternal life through Him if we accept His gift of salvation. He wants for us the abundant life.

I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. John 10:10

And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. Romans 8:28

He is always working a plan in our lives, one that will lead us to Him, one that will make us more like Him. As I look back at my life, I can see so many things He worked out in ways so much better than anything I could have ever imagined or planned myself.

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11

It all comes down to one question, “Do we trust Him, or do we not?” If we trust Him, we have all we need to get through the wait.

While we wait, we can sing louder, love deeper, embrace the mornings and, at sunset, be grateful for another day.

When we got saved, we became “be”lievers, not “do”lievers. Sometimes He wants us to just be.

“Be still, “ the Lord says, “and know that I am God. “

Dear Lord: Thank You that You have us right in the palm of Your hand, and nothing can separate us from Your love. You are always working a plan for us. Help us to trust You more during the wait. Amen

Are you burdened by the unknown? We would like to pray for you. We may not know what tomorrow holds, but we know who holds tomorrow. Please share your prayer requests, comments, experiences, and thoughts.

Thank you for reading and sharing my blogpost today. May your faith in God and His abiding love carry You through while You wait for His answers to your life questions.

About Sharon Hawkins

Sharon Hawkins wants others to know that she is totally in love with Jesus. Through hardships, trials and blessings, she has learned that there is no end to His mercy, His grace and His faithfulness. There’s simply no better friend than Jesus. In 2008, she answered God’s calling to begin a Ministry called Grace in The Wilderness. She loves to encourage other people, and, through the Ministry’s Newsletters and Conferences, she and others are challenging women and teens to discover Christ in a new and deeper way, who they are in Him and His plan for their lives. She has been a business owner for the last twenty years. Five years ago, she learned about forgiveness at a new level with the betrayal of a close friend who embezzled from her business and was sent to prison. Sharon has experienced God’s incredible grace through adversity during breast cancer and melanoma diagnoses and multiple surgeries that have perpetuated a continuing painful nerve illness. Both cancers were stage 1 and she has now been cancer free for four years. Her cancer journey is chronicled at www.caringbridge.org/visit/sharonhawkins. Recently, she sold a large part of her business as God has prepared her to turn a page in her life and focus more on ministry. With God’s amazing provision and the support of her wonderful friends and family—husband, Scott, and sons, Taylor and Bradley, Sharon is, not only surviving her wilderness one day at a time, but finding that His grace is more than sufficient no matter what.

The Wait — 2 Comments

  1. Oh, my sweet friend … You’ve done it again! You opened up your heart real wide and let Jesus speak to you and to us. Yes, HE is GOD and WE definitely are NOT! You ask … are we better NOT knowing the what, where, when and how …. as it is in times of the UNKNOWN that God GROWS our working Faith! As Garth Brooks put it …. I would have missed the dance IF I knew the ending! Thanks, sweet sister.
