Out of My Comfort Zone

I know you are not supposed to question God. But I have been wondering lately why God would put the awesome responsibility of sharing Christ to a dying world in the hands of people like me.

From the moment we are born, we have a sinful nature. I am no exception to this rule. No one has to teach us to sin, it is just the way that we come. We have to be taught to share our toys, to not hit, to not bite, to play nice.

Because of our sinful nature, we need a Savior. And, because of God’s unspeakable love for us, He sent His Son Jesus to become that sacrifice for our sins. Jesus came to die for us, to save us from what we deserve which is an eternity in Hell. So when God looks on us at Judgement Day, He can see the blood of Jesus covering us. That is the only way we are getting into Heaven … period. John 4:16 says, “I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except by me.”

If we are saved, does that make us good? Does that make us not sin? No and No. But if we accept Jesus as our Savior, it makes us forgiven and through His precious gift, we are able to spend an eternity in Heaven with Him. We can only be made perfect enough for Heaven through the blood of Jesus.

This is the good news! The greatest story that has ever been told! In my opinion, there should be trumpets sounding and angels proclaiming this good news from the skies daily to every living soul on earth so no one misses this opportunity to be saved. But is that the plan? Not exactly.

God’s plan is for those of us who have received this precious gift to lead others to Christ. If we don’t share our faith and the gospel, people will go to Hell. It is that simple. It is all on us. The stakes are high.

What?!? Those of us who are sinners (saved by grace) are supposed to try to tell someone else that they are a sinner and need to be saved. Us, who are still struggling through this life. Us, who don’t have all the answers. Us, who still mess up every day in front of God and the world. Just how are we supposed to tell people without turning them off?

The answer is love. Love for God, love for others, love for ourselves. Without it, we are not driven to share. Without it, people won’t listen if we do share. Without it, our story doesn’t sparkle. Without it, people don’t see Jesus and the difference in us that can make all the difference for them.

I share my story with people and when I come to the God part, sometimes I can see them fidget. By their body language, you can tell when someone wants you to leave out the God part. But I cannot tell my story without the God part, because without Him my story would not be my story and it would have turned out entirely different. He has saved me from sin. He has saved me from sickness. He still saves me every day. I could not have gotten up out of bed this morning without Him. He is everything to me, and the reason for the joy that keeps me going through my life.

If you are a Christian, I know your story is filled with God parts too. We all have stories of God’s amazing goodness, grace and provision during the hardest times. Still, it is not easy to share our faith and God’s blessings with others who may not be interested in listening. Even though people are dying and going to Hell all around us, it is easier somehow to just keep quiet than to risk them looking at us funny. What? Shame on me. Shame on us.

God is calling me out of my comfort zone. He has been leading me for some time to take a more active role in trying to reach others for Christ. He put on my heart for our Sunday School class to go through the study “Tell Someone” by Pastor Greg Laurie. http://www.lifeway.com/n/Product-Family/Tell-Someone. I highly recommend this study. I think every Christian should go through it. Pastor Laurie breaks it down in ways that make it so simple for us to understand and be challenged. Sharing starts with caring. Effective sharing of your faith starts with a concern and a burden. God does not look for ability as much as He does for availability. Jesus did not say that the whole world should go to the church, but He did say that the church should go to the whole world. When you tell your story, it’s not about you; it’s about Him!

So, I am stepping out of my comfort zone. I am telling someone. Will you?

Dear Lord: Please help us to be bold for you. How will others know about You and the wonderful gift of Your Son Jesus if we don’t tell them? Thank You for the good news that Jesus saves. Give us opportunities and help us to tell it far and wide. Amen

Go into all the world and preach the gospel. Mark 16:15

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16

If you don’t know Christ as your personal Savior, today can be the day that you can come to know Him and the precious gift of His blood shed on the cross for you. I would love to share more with you about this. Please send me a private message or email.

Thank you for reading and sharing my blogpost today. May God Bless and encourage you as He reveals His plans for you, even if you find they are out of your comfort zone.

About Sharon Hawkins

Sharon Hawkins wants others to know that she is totally in love with Jesus. Through hardships, trials and blessings, she has learned that there is no end to His mercy, His grace and His faithfulness. There’s simply no better friend than Jesus. In 2008, she answered God’s calling to begin a Ministry called Grace in The Wilderness. She loves to encourage other people, and, through the Ministry’s Newsletters and Conferences, she and others are challenging women and teens to discover Christ in a new and deeper way, who they are in Him and His plan for their lives. She has been a business owner for the last twenty years. Five years ago, she learned about forgiveness at a new level with the betrayal of a close friend who embezzled from her business and was sent to prison. Sharon has experienced God’s incredible grace through adversity during breast cancer and melanoma diagnoses and multiple surgeries that have perpetuated a continuing painful nerve illness. Both cancers were stage 1 and she has now been cancer free for four years. Her cancer journey is chronicled at www.caringbridge.org/visit/sharonhawkins. Recently, she sold a large part of her business as God has prepared her to turn a page in her life and focus more on ministry. With God’s amazing provision and the support of her wonderful friends and family—husband, Scott, and sons, Taylor and Bradley, Sharon is, not only surviving her wilderness one day at a time, but finding that His grace is more than sufficient no matter what.
