Embracing The Moment

embrace-the-dayThis is the week. My son, Taylor, gets married to the love of his life, Reid, this Friday. All of the months of preparation will come to a close, culminating into the one beautiful moment when they say “I do” this Friday night.

I cannot believe how quickly it came. While he just proposed in January and it seemed ages until October, now it is here.

Emily Dickinson once said, “Forever is composed of nows.” Their forever will start this Friday.

My friend reminded me the other day that, no matter how much we would like to slow it down to enjoy it, the day of the wedding will pass just like any other day. It will be just 24 hours. The best thing we can do is try to savor every minute of it.

Embracing the moment is realizing how precious life is, even, or especially, in the midst of the uncertainties and trials of life . There are no guarantees, only opportunities and what we do with them.

Each day is a gift from God. In gratitude, we can see that there is something good for us  in every day that He gives us here on this earth, no matter the hardships. We can drink deeply from this beautiful life that He has blessed us with.

Let’s not just look, let’s observe … the majesty and miracles of seeing God in our lives every day.

Let’s not just swallow, let’s taste … the sweetness of every minute with family and friends. Our time together will too soon pass.

Let’s not just sleep, let’s dream … and hope and never give up on the desires of our heart.

Let’s not just think, let’s feel … all the emotions that come with this messy, wonderful, incredible life.

Let’s not just exist, let’s live … and love and laugh every chance we get.

“What day is it?”
“It’s today,” squeaked Piglet.
“My ‘favorite’ day,” said Pooh.
― A.A. Milne

This Friday will become Taylor and Reid’s new ‘favorite’ day. I will have a front row seat to watch them embrace the best moment of their lives so far as they start their family.

I will embrace the moment too. I am sure I will laugh. I know I will cry. But more than anything else, I will praise God for the wonderful blessings of family and for this amazing, beautiful life!!

Dear Lord: Thank You that You created life, marriage and families. Your blessings for us are beyond anything that we could ever plan on our own. Thank You for blessing our children in this way. Marriage is ordained by You and is a picture of the love affair between Christ and the Church. Thank You for Your love for us in sending Your Son to die for us while we were still sinners, and for the beautiful gifts of this life. Help us to always embrace every blessing with gratitude and love for You. Amen

Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.  James 1:17

My times are in Your hands. Psalm 31:15

About Sharon Hawkins

Sharon Hawkins wants others to know that she is totally in love with Jesus. Through hardships, trials and blessings, she has learned that there is no end to His mercy, His grace and His faithfulness. There’s simply no better friend than Jesus. In 2008, she answered God’s calling to begin a Ministry called Grace in The Wilderness. She loves to encourage other people, and, through the Ministry’s Newsletters and Conferences, she and others are challenging women and teens to discover Christ in a new and deeper way, who they are in Him and His plan for their lives. She has been a business owner for the last twenty years. Five years ago, she learned about forgiveness at a new level with the betrayal of a close friend who embezzled from her business and was sent to prison. Sharon has experienced God’s incredible grace through adversity during breast cancer and melanoma diagnoses and multiple surgeries that have perpetuated a continuing painful nerve illness. Both cancers were stage 1 and she has now been cancer free for four years. Her cancer journey is chronicled at www.caringbridge.org/visit/sharonhawkins. Recently, she sold a large part of her business as God has prepared her to turn a page in her life and focus more on ministry. With God’s amazing provision and the support of her wonderful friends and family—husband, Scott, and sons, Taylor and Bradley, Sharon is, not only surviving her wilderness one day at a time, but finding that His grace is more than sufficient no matter what.
