Do It Anyway

Do it anyway 3Have you ever just wanted to give up? Boy, I have.

Do you ever feel like you just don’t have one more thing to give anybody else? Just then, you get your second wind. You try again. Or you don’t.

There have been many times that I felt God calling me to more. Sometimes I pushed through and I did it. I was faithful. Sometimes I didn’t, and I let Him down.

When I did it, I felt victorious. When I didn’t, I felt defeated. So why don’t we always push through?

Life is hard and it often takes all we have just to get through our daily grind. To do more, well, that takes more. That takes something that comes from a different place.

Albert Einstein once said, “Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep moving.” Sometimes it is uphill though. Sometimes it is through the rain though. Sometimes through the wilderness though. Sometimes through the storm though. There are a million “thoughs” that make it harder than just riding a bike. It is a daily choice to keep pedaling.

I learned a long time ago that I cannot do this life without God’s help. But if I give God my weakness, He will give me His strength. And He has, many times.

Psalm 121 is a beautiful passage that promises that His children’s help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. He is our Shade from the sun, our Protector. He will not let our feet slip. He watches over us and never sleeps. The Lord gives us the strength to do it anyway, even when we don’t feel like it. When we can’t, He can.

Mother Teresa’s poem describes our struggle. With God’s help, we can do it anyway.

People are often unreasonable, irrational, and self-centered.  Forgive them anyway.

If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives.  Be kind anyway.

If you are successful, you will win some unfaithful friends and some genuine enemies.  Succeed anyway.

If you are honest and sincere people may deceive you.  Be honest and sincere anyway.

What you spend years creating, others could destroy overnight.  Create anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness, some may be jealous.  Be happy anyway.

The good you do today, will often be forgotten.  Do good anyway.

Give the best you have, and it will never be enough.  Give your best anyway.

In the final analysis, it is between you and God.  It was never between you and them anyway.

Dear Lord: Help us to have the resolve to persevere when it is hard, to work harder to bring You glory. You created us for more. Help us to strive for that. When we want to give up, please give us Your strength to do it anyway. Amen

And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.  Ephesians 6:9

I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. Psalm 121: 1-2

About Sharon Hawkins

Sharon Hawkins wants others to know that she is totally in love with Jesus. Through hardships, trials and blessings, she has learned that there is no end to His mercy, His grace and His faithfulness. There’s simply no better friend than Jesus. In 2008, she answered God’s calling to begin a Ministry called Grace in The Wilderness. She loves to encourage other people, and, through the Ministry’s Newsletters and Conferences, she and others are challenging women and teens to discover Christ in a new and deeper way, who they are in Him and His plan for their lives. She has been a business owner for the last twenty years. Five years ago, she learned about forgiveness at a new level with the betrayal of a close friend who embezzled from her business and was sent to prison. Sharon has experienced God’s incredible grace through adversity during breast cancer and melanoma diagnoses and multiple surgeries that have perpetuated a continuing painful nerve illness. Both cancers were stage 1 and she has now been cancer free for four years. Her cancer journey is chronicled at www.caringbridge.org/visit/sharonhawkins. Recently, she sold a large part of her business as God has prepared her to turn a page in her life and focus more on ministry. With God’s amazing provision and the support of her wonderful friends and family—husband, Scott, and sons, Taylor and Bradley, Sharon is, not only surviving her wilderness one day at a time, but finding that His grace is more than sufficient no matter what.
