What is the Women’s March Teaching our Daughters?
You normally will not find me commenting on political matters. However, the Women’s March on Washington this weekend saddens me so deeply for women and what we are teaching our daughters that I can not remain silent.
Tell me again how wearing female body parts on our heads and marching in nudity convinces men to desexualize women. How does threatening to blow up the White House while calling the march a revolution of love send a message of hope and patriotism? What is feminine, lovely, graceful and ladylike about any of this? Our girls are watching, ladies.
How does using filthy language elevate others’ thoughts of us, and how then can we teach our daughters not to curse and to have respect for others?
Even more troubling is that truly the only thing more repulsive than a woman fighting for the right to kill babies, is a woman fighting for the right to kill her own child. Doesn’t this cause a little girl to feel that maybe she is not as valuable, treasured and loved as her mom says she is?
Washington was trashed in more than one way by this group of angry women. I don’t get it, and it was obvious that many of the marchers did not get it either. When questioned by reporters, many of the women could not explain why they were marching. Maybe they heard on tv that they should march? Did they find the fulfillment they were seeking on these streets in Washington? I have my doubts.
I fully support a woman’s right to voice her concerns, but these protesters did not represent all of us or even a big part of us. And, as a woman, wife and mother, I was embarrassed, appalled and disgusted by the reports on the news. As a Christian, my heart was broken. But I digress. This was not about me.
What it was about was women seeking validation, understanding, peace and power. This is too tall an order for mere men to deliver. Maybe that is why there is such frustration. True validation, understanding, peace and power can only come through living a life that is devoted to Christ. The true strength of a woman comes from God, and total fulfillment may only be found in her relationship with Him. For God did not give us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7
Woman was wonderfully and fearfully made in the image of God. He made woman very special, very strong, very versatile. This is what we should be teaching our daughters.
He did not intend for us to be able to do everything a man can do. He intended for us to be able to do everything a man cannot do. There is no shame in that. I think that is actually pretty awesome. And we can find no greater contentment than being the women, wives and mothers that God created us to be!
He gave us shoulders strong enough to carry the weight of the world, but gentle enough to give comfort. He gave us an inner strength to endure childbirth and the rejection that may come when our children break our hearts (notice I said “when”). God made us strong to carry our husbands through their faults, to stand beside them unfalteringly. (Yes, I realize I said husband. That was God’s plan—marriage between a man and a woman. There is no shame in that either and no substitute for God’s awesome plan there.) He created woman from man’s rib to protect his heart.
Our daughters should know that they were created special. The Lord gave us a hardness to let us keep going when everyone else gives up and a resolve to take care of our families through sickness and fatigue without complaining. We can spend a long day caring for our elderly parents, cook dinner, clean house, do homework and be there for our husbands and kids. Then walk a sick baby 10 miles that night, get 45 minutes of sleep, wash the baby throw up out of our hair, slip on our 4 inch heels, and be sharp as a tack for an important meeting. We are SPECIAL!
… And we do not have to wear female body parts on our heads and scream obscenities to prove it. Just saying…
Dear Lord: Thank you that you created us male and female, knowing that you had a perfect plan for both sexes. As women, please help us to see the awesomeness of your plan and to strive to be the best that we can be with Your help. Let us to live our lives as an example for our children showing them that Your perfect plan is not one to be ashamed of, but one to be embraced that glorifies You. We pray that You will bring our nation the peace that we seek through repentance, revival and a spiritual harvest. Amen
When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. Psalm 139:15-16
Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies. Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised. Proverbs 31:10 and 31:30
